Apple Pencil Teardown shows Folded Logic board, impossible to repair and more

Apple pencil teardown
iFixit Apple Pencil teardown, there is no surprise because there is no Apple Product which iFixit didn't teardown.

Apple Pencil is not easy to teardown, iFixit first removed the outer plastic casing of the Pencil to reveal the inner Metal casing. The tip has two emitters which determine the angle and the orientation of the Pencil's nib that adjusts the width of the stroke. iPad Pro contains a digitizer that determines the distance of the each emitter from the screen.

Next to a small cylindrical black and gold antenna they found Apple Pencil's tiny 0.329 Wh lithium-ion rechargeable battery that can run the Apple Pencil for 30 minutes with just 15 seconds of charge and can be fully charged in nearly 8 minutes to provide 12 hours of battery life. There is also a small ribbon like cable that connects the Apple Pencil's battery with its Lightning connector for charging.

On the other end of the battery is the Folded Logic Board of the Apple Pencil that weighs only one gram. The logic board contains more then five components shown below.

Orange outline shows: ST Microelectronics AS5C Y533 (which is also used in 4th generation Apple TV)
Red outline shows: ST Microelectronics STML151UCY6 Ultra-low-power 32-bit RISC ARM-based Cortex-M3 MCU
Green outline shows: EWX 01129
Yellow outline shows: L05286 QS4 VG Z SGP 528
The logic board also contains a Cambridge Silicon Radio Qualcomm CSR1012A05 Bluetooth Smart IC which is not outlined in this image.

iFixit gave Apple Pencil the lowest repairability score 1 out of 10. But you can replace the Pencil nib and the cap. iFixit states there is no way getting into the Stylus without destroying it.The battery is also not replaceable.

iPad Pro Teardown reveals large speakers, Empty place and 5K iMac like LCD timing controller

Just like always, iFixit gave iPad Pro teardown treatment providing the detail of iPad Pro hardware. According to iFixit, most of the iPad Pro internals are similar to iPad Air 2, Some differences include brand new loud Four-speaker audio setup.

Speaker drivers are sitting on each of the corners next to a capped resonance chamber. The identical design of speakers helps in shifting the function of the speakers depending upon the orientation of the device. Top speakers are build to produce high frequencies and bottom speakers produces low frequencies. Uncapping the volume chamber, which give iPad Pro's speakers 61 percent more back volume than the iPad Air 2. Carbon fiber caps filled with foams are used to amplify the sound. iFixit observed that the speakers are taking a lot of space that could have used for accommodating battery to increase the capacity by 50 percent. Previous iPads never used Premium speakers like iPad Pro uses, so the speakers also don't take a lot of space.

iFixit find Logic Board in the center of the body which used to be in the side of the body in previous iPads. Logic board also has shielding which had to be removed before reaching the Logic board, Previous iPads had no shielding on the logic board.

iFixit found that iPad Pro uses DP695 Timing control which is almost similar to the timing controller used in the 5K Retina iMac, But the timing controller is modified to better use display refresh rate. They also found iPad Pro batteries easier to remove as they have adhesive pull tabs under the battery.

Reaching to the parts which matters most, iFixit told that iPad Pro's carries 4GB of RAM, a 2.25GHz  Dual Core A9X processor and 10307 mAh battery which gives 10 hours of battery life to iPad Pro.

iFixit has given iPad Pro 3 out of 10 in repairability score section. The iPad issue is that iPad Pro uses a lot of adhesive in order to pack device compactly and the adhesive has always noticed to be against repairability. but iFixit tells Smart connector will never fail as it is not based on any moving parts but although it's virtually impossible to replace.

Apple Watch Sport costs less than $83 for all of its components

On Monday Tim Took told investors to not even try guess how much Apple Supply Chain costs are, but that's doesn't stops some analyst from trying to predict the price of the components of the Apple Watch. IHS Technology disassembled the 38mm Apple Watch Sport and according to them the $350 Apple Watch Sport costs less than $83 for its components.

During the disassemblage IHS also discovered that the Apple Watch may have the lowest hardware costs when compared to the retail price any other Apple product. IHS also estimated that the MRSP ratio of the other Apple is somewhere between 24% to 98%, but Apple Watch lands on 24% ratio which is extremely low.

Even though that cost doesn't the money Apple loses on faulty components, software, Logistics and all other costs which are associated with the Apple Watch. According to IHS the most expensive hardware piece of the Apple Watch is the tiny LG OLED Display which costs around $20.50. The S1 processor is for about $10.20 and the 512MB of RAM accounts for $7.20.
According to the experts at IHS the cheapest component is the tiny battery (for which fans are extremely worried) which is a hell of a lot of cheap at only 80 cents per piece.

Completing 1000 charge cycles Apple watch battery will still retain up to 80% of its original capacity

After 1000 charge cycles Apple Watch battery clings up to 80% of its original capacity and afterward its capacity keep depleting further.

In  comparison to iPhone, iPad and MacBook its a great battery in a small package as iPhone at 500 cycles stick up to 80% capacity and iPad also retain up to 80% on 100 cycles and Macbook also stick to it for whole 1000 cycles to its original capacity

iFixit has comfirmed that Apple watch has 205mAh battery capacity
