Faceook updated iOS App to fix battery drain issue


Few days ago facebook iOS App users encountered a battery drain issue which started eating a lot of battery life even when the backgound App refresh was toggled off, but not any more. Facebook today updated its iOS app which fixes the battery drain issue with other improvments.

While Facebook didn't mention its battery drain issue fix in the update notes, while Tech Crunch noticeted the Facebook engineering manager Ari Grant's post on facebook about the fix and the reason behind it. Grant told that there were several factor which lead to the battery drain issue including a "CPU Spin" in code network and silent background audio session which kept the app awake even when it wasn't open.

Fedirico vittci from Macstories stated that the issue is because the silent audio in the background and today it turned out to be correct.

Tech Crunch's Matthew Panizaron also suggested that Facebook's use of silent audio in background may be done on a purpose but Facebook says it was a unintentional bug.

Grant says the the Facebook iOS App has been fixed both the issue which were causing battery drain and users will no more face the issue and Facebook is still working to make app even more battery friendly.
